Artist's Comments

I might be more of an anime and manga addict nowadays, but when I was younger I was a (wannabe) X-Men fan. Unfortunately, other then sponging off my brother's vast collection and the buying the odd comic here and there, I simply didn't have the funds to be one ^^;;, so my knowledge of plot lines is extremely patchy.

Drawn because Cyclops was so cheated in X-Men 3 - his parts were completely taken over by Wolverine. I like Wolverine, but not everything's about him; Scott Summers and Jean Grey are a combo like....bacon and eggs, and peanut butter and jam! The Scott-Jean-Logan triangle is only interesting to me when Jean is in love with Scott but attracted to Logan despite herself, and Cyclops was just shunted off to the side in X-Men 3. >:0 Plus, what was with shoving in two huge plotlines from the comics and not covering either properly? Plot-tasticness occurs! Pretty to look at, but the plot just went straight to hell.

Trying a new style of colouring; originally was attempting something in the style of most Image Comics but it wandered off and acquired things from my normal mode of colouring and highlights from ::iconklar:: whose artwork I admire very much. I found blending more smoothly is actually much easier with shape dynamics turned off in PS. I might add the X symbol in the back to frame the two of them later. Cyclops' costume is a weird mix between his movie one and usual comic one.

Some weird things going on with the lineart, (particularly head anatomy, angle of Scott's visor, muscles in general argh) because it was only supposed to be a quick image, and I didn't pay as much attention as I should have during the sketch stage.

EDIT: Background change! Supposedly the X symbol in brushed metal, but you can't really see it, ahahaa.

.....What's up with the categories? No 'comic fanart' category? D:(

I love that Jean's suit looks kind of like latex. Rowr. The art is a great style, and I like that it's not too comic-book-y. It comes off more like an homage this way, I think, and that's a great thing.

I'm not really famialiar with the plot but this is a wonderful illustration. I also hate it when plotlines are ruined when they're brought to film -.- Nearly every book-based movie seems to do that e.e

Thanks! Yeah it is a pity, although there are some conversions that have been quite wonderful, and really take advantage of being made into a film rather then a movie - The Fifth Element (although I haven't actually found and read the book yet, so maybe that's ignorance speaking?) and Interview with the Vampire spring to mind.

...Off topic, but LotR would have been an almost perfect conversion if Frodo hadn't been characterized as such a pansy *grumble*.

Doing the latex effect colouring was a whole heap of fun ^___^. I was aiming for something comic-booky in way of colouring at first, (so I kind of failed in that respect ^^;) but it's nice to know that the end style is still pleasing to eyes other then mine! I sort of did want to pay a little bit of homage by crossing a little of what I remember of the 'classic' marvel superhero style into my own, so it's sort of nice that that's coming through, thanks!

Thanks! Well, I didn't use Jean's as Jean Grey classic costume - I always thought that blue head-frame thing looked a bit weird? But yeah, Phoenix! Her hair was much fun to do.
:iconhopelessshade:
huh, it is the Pheonix costume... [link];page=4

but she's never worn a blue head-frame thing....maybe thats storm youre thinking of? but i think hers was black...

.....Future generations eh?
:iconhopelessshade:
huh, thats some weird shit. ugly, too. it was probably part of a team costume thing, where they all looked alike...NOBODY looks good in those.

Beautiful work, especially on the skin. I love the feeling of warmth Phoenix seems to have, even if there is a *definite* sad vibe about this piece.
